Product Overview
HCPL-788J-500E is an isolation amplifier with short circuit and overload detection that makes motor phase current sensing compact, affordable and easy-to-implement while satisfying worldwide safety and regulatory requirements. It is designed for current sensing in electronic motor drives. In a typical implementation, motor currents flow through an external resistor and the resulting analogue voltage drop is sensed by the HCPL-788J. Typical applications include motor phase and rail current sensing, power inverter current and voltage sensing, industrial process control, data acquisition systems, general purpose current and voltage sensing, traditional current transducer replacements.
- Output voltage directly compatible with A/D converters (0V to VREF)
- Fast (3µs) short circuit detection with transient fault rejection
- Absolute value signal output for overload detection
- Regulatory approvals: UL, CSA, IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5 (1414 Vpeak working voltage)
- Magnitude of input offset change vs. temperature is 1µV/°C typ at VIN+=0 V,TA=-40°C to +85°C
- Common mode transient immunity is 25kV/µs typ for VOUT, active-low FAULT, and ABSVAL outputs
- VOUT bandwidth (-3dB) is 30kHz typ at VIN+=200 mVpk-pk, sine wave
- Common-mode rejection ratio is >140dB typ at 60Hz, VREF =4.0V, VDD1=VDD2=5V and TA=25°C
- SO-16 package
- Operating temperature range from -40 to 85°C
