Tower Board Systems
NXP has designed a comprehesive range of towerboard that offers low-cost demonstration and development hardware platform.
Tower System Features
Functional Elevator:
- Common serial and expansion bus signals
- Two 2x80 connectors on backside for easy signal access and side-mounting board (e.g. LCD module)
- Power regulation circuitry
- Standardized signal assignments
Peripheral Module
Board Connectors:
- Four card-edge connectors
- Uses PCI Express connectors (x16, 90mm/3.5" long, 164 pins)
MCU/MPU Module:
- Toewr controller board
- Works stand-alone or in Tower system
- Features new Open Source BDM (OSBDM) for easy programming and debugging via miniB USB cable
- Size: The Tower is approx. 3.5" H x 3.5" W x 3.5" D when fully assembled
Dummy Elevator:
- Future expansion for more serial interfaces and more complex MPU interfaces (e.g. RGB LCD, audio, enhanced Timer, etc.)
- "Dummy" shown with only GND connectivity. Used for structural intergrity
XL_STAR Demonstration and Debugger Board
Features & Benefits:
- The XL_STAR offers a complete MCU development environment
- The tools are supported and maintained by NXP
- The complete BOM for XL_STAR is available from element14, ex-stock
- The MC9S08MM128 from NXP offers some industry leading peripheral on-chip modules, notably the 16-bit ADC
- The NXP Flexis family offers a 32-bit pin-compatible MCU, the MCF51MM128, for applications that require more processing performance without a PCB re-design
Applications:
- Portable designs – the MM128 MCU and MMA8451Q accelerometer have very low power modes, measured using jumpers and an ammeter on the XL_STAR board
- Applications requiring movement detection and interpretation – the MMA8451Q allows free fall, shake, tap, transient and orientation detection for embedded applications
- Embedded designs requiring USB connectivity – the MM128 MCU also contains a USB OTG on-chip module, which integrates the USB transceiver. Together with a certified free of charge USB OTG stack from NXP, the XL_STAR offers fast time to market for embedded USB applications
